The DPA Open 2026 was, without question, a competition of exceptional quality, and this year’s event fully lived up to its reputation. Dancers competed across three genres: ballroom, Latin, and sequence, over two highly successful and extremely busy days. With many events reaching full capacity and an outstanding standard of dancing throughout, the DPA Open once again proved itself to be a major highlight in the national dancing calendar.
The outstanding highlight of the weekend was undoubtedly the DPA Open Team Match, a competition truly unique in its format and spirit. Dancers of all ages and levels came together to compete, creating an exciting and inclusive showcase of talent. The team match was expertly adjudicated by Jackie Conway, whose professionalism and fairness were exemplary. The closeness of the competition was reflected in the final results, with placings ultimately decided by just a single score between each team.
While all teams performed to a very high standard, congratulations are extended to the Red Team, captained by the DPA Secretary, Kris Turner, who were crowned champions. A sincere well done is offered to every competitor who contributed to this achievement, as well as to all dancers across the remaining teams for their commitment and sportsmanship.
Grateful thanks are extended to our adjudicators and officials who officiated throughout the weekend. Their dedication, professionalism, and attention to detail ensured the event ran smoothly and efficiently. Appreciation is also given to the venue and its management team for their invaluable support in helping to deliver such a successful competition.
My final, and most heartfelt, thanks go to the competitors, parents, guardians, and spectators. Without your continued support, this event simply would not be possible. The enthusiasm with which the team match was embraced, and the vibrant atmosphere created across both days, was truly exceptional and greatly enhanced the overall experience.
As the festival concluded, one aspect stood out above all else… the strong sense of community that filled the room. To witness dancers from all corners of the United Kingdom working together, forming new friendships, and proudly supporting their teams was both inspiring and deeply rewarding.
I cannot conclude my thanks without formally acknowledging the tremendous hard work of the DPA committee. The dedication and effort invested behind the scenes in the lead up to the event should not be underestimated; it is this commitment that ensures everything runs so seamlessly. I am also sincerely grateful for the wonderful entertainment provided by the committee over the weekend, which added greatly to the enjoyment of the occasion.
It therefore remains only to say: keep dancing, keep striving, and we very much look forward to welcoming you all to the DPA Summer Festival in July.
